About Namgyal Institute of Tibetology

The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is the foremost centre for Tibetan and Buddhist scholarship outside Tibet, established in 1958 by the last Chogyal of Sikkim. Its museum holds one of the world’s finest collections of Tibetan thangkas, ritual artefacts, rare manuscripts, and iconography that spans over a thousand years. The library is used by scholars from across the world and the building itself is a graceful example of Sikkimese architecture.
