About Do Drul Chorten

Do Drul Chorten is one of the largest and most significant Buddhist stupas in Sikkim, built in 1945 by Trulshik Rinpoche. The stupa is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels and houses sacred Buddhist relics, statues, and texts. It sits beside the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and together the two form the spiritual and scholarly heart of Gangtok. Spinning the prayer wheels at dusk with local Sikkimese residents is one of the city’s quietest pleasures.
