About Enchey Monastery

Enchey Monastery, founded in 1840 on a ridge above Gangtok, is one of the most important Nyingma-order monasteries in Sikkim. The main temple houses impressive statues and thangkas, and the location gives 360-degree views across Gangtok to the Kanchendzonga range on clear days. The annual Chaam masked dance festival in December-January draws large crowds of monks and local families.
