About Shilloi Lake

Shilloi Lake is Nagaland’s largest natural lake, considered sacred by the Zeliang Naga people who believe it to be the home of a protective spirit. The horseshoe-shaped lake sits at altitude amid forested hills and has no inlet or outlet stream, adding to its mysterious character. The drive through Phek district’s terraced fields and traditional Naga villages is part of what makes the journey worthwhile.
