About Shree Govindajee Temple

Shree Govindajee Temple adjacent to the old Manipur Royal Palace is one of the most important Vaishnava temples in Northeast India, distinguished by its twin golden domes. The evening aarti here is elaborate and deeply musical — classical Manipuri dance forms part of the devotional offering, which reflects the deep interweaving of Vaishnavism and Meitei performing arts. The temple is the spiritual heart of Imphal.
