About Polo Ground Imphal

The Mapal Kangjeibung Polo Ground in Imphal is the world’s oldest polo ground, where the sport of polo was born among the Meitei people. The Manipuri game of Sagol Kangjei — played on small country ponies — is the direct ancestor of the international polo played today. Matches are still held here, and watching a traditional match on the ground where the sport originated is a genuinely rare experience.
