About Kongthong Village

Kongthong is the Whistling Village of Meghalaya, where each person is given a unique musical whistle-tune at birth called ‘jingrwai iawbei’, used instead of their name to call them across the valley. This tuneful communication system, unique in India, has been documented by linguists and ethnomusicologists. The village also sits at the edge of a ridge with wide views across the Khasi Hills.
