About Imphal War Cemetery

Imphal War Cemetery holds the graves of 1,604 Allied soldiers killed in the 1944 Battle of Imphal, one of the decisive battles of the Second World War and often fought alongside the Battle of Kohima. The immaculate lawns and rows of white headstones managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission stand in quiet contrast to the city around them. Together with Kohima, Imphal is essential for anyone tracing the Pacific War’s forgotten front.
