It marks the completion of jungle clearing for jhum (slash-and-burn) cultivation and involves large-scale traditional dance, music, and costume performances across the city.

How to Reach Aizawl

By Air: Lengpui Airport (IATA: AJL) is 30 km west of the city, roughly a one-hour drive via a winding mountain road. IndiGo and Air India operate daily flights from Kolkata and Guwahati, with connecting options from Delhi.

By Rail: Mizoram has no functional railway station. The nearest railheads are Silchar in Assam (approximately 180 km from Aizawl) and Bairabi (around 50 km from Kolasib in northern Mizoram). From Silchar, shared taxis and buses cover the distance to Aizawl in about five to six hours.

By Road: National Highway 306 connects Aizawl to Guwahati, a distance of around 630 km. The drive takes 10 to 12 hours under normal conditions and passes through Silchar. State-run and private buses operate this route daily.

Permit Requirements

All visitors to Mizoram, including Indian nationals from other states, require an Inner Line Permit (ILP). You can obtain it at Mizoram House offices in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Silchar, or collect it on arrival at Lengpui Airport. The process is straightforward and usually takes under 30 minutes. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi, which must be arranged well in advance of travel.
