About Hajo

Hajo is one of India’s most unusual pilgrimage towns, where Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhist shrines coexist on adjacent hilltops overlooking the Brahmaputra. The 16th-century Hayagriva Madhava Vishnu temple, the Powa Mecca mosque (considered equivalent to a pilgrimage to Mecca by some), and ancient Buddhist vestiges all draw devotees of different faiths to the same small town. This religious convergence is unique in India.
